NOTICE BOARD

THE COTSWOLD SHEEP SOCIETY WOULD LIKE TO WISH ALL OUR MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR!!!

BE BLUETONGUE AWARE:

Unfortunately Bluetongue is still on the move westwards. As of 16/12/2024 the Bluetongue Control Zone is now as far west as Witney, Faringdon, Woodstock and Banbury. For the Interactive Bluetongue Map click here. For up-to-date news, information and guidance, visit the DEFRA website here.

NEW VET ATTESTATION RULES:

VET ATTESTATION: Members with sheep should be aware that there is now an additional requirement for all farmers sending animals directly from their farm to slaughter. You must provide evidence of regular animal health visits by your vet, who will issue you with a Vet Attestation Number (VAN) to include on your Movement License. This certifies your animals are healthy and disease free. It has to be renewed annually. This requirement applies even if you will be collecting the butchered lambs for your own use. For further information click here.

Stone Head BiburyCotswold sheep, often referred to as the 'Cotswold Lion' were introduced into the UK by the Romans. Their wool was referred to as the 'Golden Fleece' owing to its rich lustre, and was an important export, particularly in the Middle Ages. It not only played a major role in the development of many Cotswold towns and villages, but also in the finances of the nation. Sadly times have changed, and they are now classified as a rare breed.
