Cotswold Fleece Wanted

Cotswold Tweed Project 2024

William Spray is making good progress with his exciting Cotswold Tweed Project. He is using Cotswold wool to produce a tweed suitable for creating items of clothing. This project was inspired by Maria Benjamin's discussions about her 'Lake District Tweed' project, which was aired on the Farming Today programme.

William needs more wool this year (2024) to take the project forwards. If there are any members interested in contributing Cotswold wool to William's enterprise, or finding out more about it, they should email him. William is offering £3 per kg and he looks forward to hearing from you. He can collect!

May 2024 - Update

Harrison Spinks are collaborating with Adam Henson to create luxuriously handcrafted mattresses filled with wool from pedigree Cotswold sheep across the region, in a celebration of British farming and traditional premium craftsmanship. We see this as a great way to help champion the Cotswold breed and promote the 'Golden Fleece' by providing an outlet for Cotswold breeders and their wool.

We are offering £2 per kg for Cotswold fleeces. These must be high quality, clean fleeces with any dags and dirt removed, and no matted fleece. The fleeces can be in wool bags or something similar such as a clean bulk bag, and should be clearly labeled with the name, address, email and phone number of the supplier. (If you require wool bags these can be supplied, and collected, from Bemborough Farm.) The filled bags can be delivered to Bemborough Farm where they will be weighed. Payment will be made by BACS within 14 days.

Felstead Fleece offer 'Fleece Processing'

For the past 8-years, Felsted Fleece have been processing the fleece generated by their own small flock of Gotland sheep mainly because, with only a few fleeces each year, they could not find anyone willing to do the work for them.  Now with 60 sheep, and for the sake of their sanity, Neil & Cara  have had to expand their processing to include some industrial-scale equipment.

Felsted Fleece plan to offer Contract processing and bespoke dying, if required: “From the sheep’s back to a Carded Sliver or batt”,  but spaces will be limited...

So, if you own a small number of sheep or are a Spinner or Weaver that has bought a single fleece ‘In the Grease’ and don’t want the hassle of Scouring and Carding it yourself, why not contact Felsted Fleece to discuss your requirements and reserve a Processing Slot.
